From our experience with my mom, it really depends on expectations. The biggest upside was knowing she’d have proper assistance during the ride, especially on days when she was weak or unsteady. It also took pressure off the family. Downsides were mostly around scheduling windows and less flexibility if appointments ran late. Once I understood who qualifies for NEMT services, it made more sense why it works better for some situations than others. It’s great for routine, planned visits, but probably not ideal if you need something fast or spontaneous.

Any service that sits between personal help and emergency care is going to feel imperfect at times. I’ve noticed people tend to judge it based on one bad or good experience, rather than how it performs overall. When routines are predictable, systems like this usually shine more. It often comes down to whether the service matches the rhythm of someone’s day-to-day needs.
